About Swartwout Group

Meet Karey

Karey Swartwout is a psychotherapist and founder of Swartwout Group. Her approach is straightforward and strategic. She helps clients slow things down enough to understand what's actually happening, including the relationships, assumptions and patterns that may be influencing a situation. The goal is to see things more clearly, recognize what may be within your control, and make more deliberate choices about what comes next.

Before becoming a therapist, Karey spent more than two decades building and selling businesses and leading organizations through growth, conflict and significant change. As the parent of a large blended family, she also understands that relationships and family life rarely fit neatly into categories.

Her work includes individual, couples and family therapy, particularly around relationship difficulties and marital crises, complicated decisions and major life transitions. She also supports older children and adolescents around anxiety and pressure, ADHD and executive functioning, emotional regulation, friendships and social stress, family changes, parent-child conflict, and the transition toward greater independence.

She offers ongoing therapy, extended sessions and focused therapy intensives for individuals and relationships. When useful, she also works alongside other professionals involved in a client's care. She pursues ongoing advanced training in evidence-informed approaches to trauma, relationships, family systems, and behavior change.
